As a Melbourne based Holistic Counsellor serving the SE suburbs including (but not only) Narre Warren, Berwick, Beaconsfield, Clyde, Cranbourne, Frankston and Mornington Peninsula, my purpose is to support your wellness goals. My approach to counselling is holistic, recognizing that the mind influences the body as the body influences the mind. My professional formation is being a member of PACFA after studying with ACAP. With my little family, I like to go on hikes, read and watch movies. I have always been interested in psychology and philosophy.
"It always seems impossible until it's done" - my favourite quote of all times, so simple and so true.
I cannot stress enough how healing change in the direction of your choice can be and how transformation is not only a possibility but an organic necessity, too.

COUNSELLING IS NOT A STIGMA
I see your struggle
Most of us have been raised in a culture where sharing your problems and asking for help was considered a weakness. But nothing could be further from the truth. Strenghth means both accepting and offering help, alterning between the two as life requires of us. Talking through your problems, getting feedback, making place for vulnerability and learning how to act in front of adversity are some of the skills that were not taught and sometimes not even discussed in schools and families.
And most of the time we are doing okay. But sometimes we feel stressed, overwhelmed, depleated, anxious, or sad. Sometimes we feel pain. Often, we struggle, but we trudge on. But I have learned that he biggest gift we can give ourselves is to stop and pay attention to what our body tries to tell us.
Life does not have to be a struggle.

HOW DO WE KNOW WHEN WE NEED HELP?
Sometimes there is a change in our mood or feelings that can be accompanied by physical symptoms. This results from our unmet needs and appears when our authentic self screams for help. And there it is - the signal that we are not all right and something has to shift - your own body and mind are telling you the time for change has come.

COUNSELLING SERVICES

CHILDREN COUNSELLING/PLAY SESSION
"Every day, in a hundred ways, our children ask 'do you see me?
Do you hear me?
Do I matter?'"
Their behaviour often reflects our response." -
LR Knost
Where do parents end, and children begin? It can be frightening not to see ourselves in our children, but a whole new person instead. But if we persevere in honouring that person that might not resemble us, that bears no obligation to be like us, then we would have done our job as nurturers.
How does our relationship evolve and grows, as they do, too? Can we adapt our parenting to different life stages, and let go of our children ever so slightly, so that when they find themselves free, they feel delight? How can we be present but not overwhelming, how can we instil a love of life, curiosity and engagement?
Young children and parents are intrinsically tied, and they come together in the counselling context. Rather than just fixing unwanted behaviour, I look at the child into the family scene - because until the root cause is found, the behaviour will return again and again. And often, the whole family needs to get healthier. It is my goal to help you redefine the relationship with the children in your life, determine what they need from you and go meet them where they are.
TEENAGERS COUNSELLING
And if I fight, then for what? For nothing easy or sweet. For your own challenge, for your mistakes and the punishment for them, for your own definition of love and of sanity - a good strong self with which to begin to live"
from I Never Promised you a Rose Garden
Teenagers are constantly defining and redefining themselves.
"Why do I feel this way? What is wrong with me? Why does everything seem to fall apart?" At the bottom of this lies the quest for identity. But if this is hijacked, the self is never formed. Navigating life with a fragmented self is painful and this is why an important segment of the therapy I offer is investigating the self, defining it and learning to stay true to it at all times. It takes courage to grow up in a world that is not perfect. But my hope is that if teens have a strong sense of self and are encouraged to growth, then they will be able to not just survive in an imperfect world, but actually enjoy it and make it better.
By modelling our own struggles and the ways in which we overcome them, by acknowledging that growing up takes a whole lot of courage and by being true to our words, we can be the role models they need for thriving.

ADULTS COUNSELLING
"It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate.
I am the captain of my soul," William Ernest Henry
The continuous quest for independence and individuality continues in adulthood. And many of our problems are rooted in the lack of these two components, and the organic need we have for them - as well as for evolution and change.
Therapy can help by inviting awakening and self-awareness, which are states of mind that promote our own individuality. Many of us have lived through a culture where admitting your vulnerability was considered a weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth - strength actually means having the grace to accept help and the compassion to offer it in return, when others need it from us. So especially for people who have been through trauma, sweeping things under the rug and pretending nothing happened will not do good.
That is why there is an invitation for you to come and talk, and see what therapy can do for you.
